AUTHOR INTERVIEW - Jade Kerrion, Author of the Double Helix Series

Hi everyone! Here's an interview with Jade Kerrion (author of the Double Helix series) where she answers one of the most pressing questions of the millennium. :)

Jade Kerrion
1. WOULD YOU RATHER SHOVE YOUR HEAD INSIDE A COW'S ANUS OR DRINK A DIARRHEA SMOOTHIE?
Ugh. None of the above. (What twisted mind comes up with questions like these?) Fine, if I had to pick one, I think I’d rather shove my head inside a cow’s anus.

2. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE?
I started at the age of thirteen when my school essays were returned to me with a bunch of “A”s scrawled over the top. Teenagers are impressionable. Being much more impressionable than most, and believing that my teachers knew what they were doing, I figured I was destined to be a writer. It’s only taken me tens of thousands of hours of work since then to be halfway decent at writing (and I’m still learning each day), but one has to start somewhere.

3. CAN WRITERS CHANGE THE WORLD?
Oh, they already have. If I were to name the people who have most influenced me, they would be writers. Nothing shapes your worldview as subtly and as permanently as a really good book that draws you in.

4. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BOOK AND WHY?

Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series (which, technically, is a graphic novel.) I love the complex storylines that interweave like a flawless tapestry. Like a tapestry viewed from the back, you don’t always know how it all fits together, but when the book is complete and you turn the tapestry around, it’s nothing short of brilliant.

5. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR NEW AND UP-AND-COMING WRITERS?
Be persistent. Just above every single overnight success required several years (or even decades) or work. Keep writing and don’t let your dream die just because you don’t see immediate results. Immediate results are rare (in writing and in just about everything else) and your best bet for eventual success is simply not to give up. Make a conscious and deliberate effort to be the best writer you can be.

6. IF YOUR BOOK WAS TURNED INTO A MOVIE, WHO WOULD DIRECT IT? WHO WOULD STAR IN IT?
Oh, that’s a tough one. I’d like someone known for attention to detail to recreate the extraordinary scenes in the book, so perhaps someone like Peter Jackson. As for the two stars, I’d pick Felicity Jones for Ashra, and male supermodel, Clint Mauro, for Jaden Hunter.

Felicity Jones. Not related to Tom Jones.
Clint Mauro. Definitely not related to Clint Howard. In the 21st century, upper body clothing has yet to be invented.
7. IF YOU WEREN'T A WRITER, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING NOW?
Well, I’m a lot of other things now, in addition to being a writer. I actually work full-time in an education company, but in an absolutely perfect world (assuming I didn’t have to work for money), if I weren’t a writer, I’d like to try my hand at acting. Writing is a safe avenue for the residual weirdness in my head, and I like to think that acting would be a similarly safe avenue.

8. IF THE WORLD ENDED TOMORROW, WHAT WOULD YOU DO TODAY?
Honestly, nothing special. It’d be too late to do anything different at that point. I’d probably just hang out with the people who mean the most to me—my family—and focus on having an awesome last day.

Thanks for stopping by, Jade!

Jade has a new book out called Eternal Night. Check it out!

"What makes Kerrion’s writing so compelling is the beautifully flawed characters that find themselves in unexpected relationships...these kind of character level conflicts make Kerrion’s writing so deliciously addictive."—Noor A Jahangir, Author of The Changeling King

“Everything you want in a great story. Love, intrigue, action, betrayal, and understanding.”—Ch’kara Silverwolf, Author of Daughter of Light and Dark

Alone for a millennium, since a human murdered her beloved consort, Ashra, the immortal icrathari queen, rules over Aeternae Noctis, the domed city of eternal night. Her loneliness appears to be at an end when her consort’s soul is reborn in a human, Jaden Hunter, but their reunion will not be easy.

Icrathari are born, not made. If Ashra infuses Jaden with her immortal blood, he will be a vampire, a lesser creature of the night, a blood-drinker rather than a soul-drinker.

Furthermore, Jaden is sworn to protect his half-sister, five-year-old Khiarra. She is the child of prophecy, destined to end the eternal night and the dominion of the Night Terrors—the icrathari and the vampires.

As Ashra struggles to sustain her crumbling kingdom in the face of enemies without and treachery within, Jaden fights to defend his sister and unravel a greater mystery: what is the city of eternal night, and how did it come to be?
